It's been a very eventful month for Liz and I with regard to the Evil Twin Booking Agency. We kept mum while deluged with hate mail over Bill Ayers. When Obama won, we were overjoyed at the historic significance and danced in the streets. Rather than publicizing what we were going through pre-election, we decided to focus all of our energy on a project that we believed would really inspire a sense of true Hope and Change. That project, of course, was to work in a coalition of dozens of organizations and thousands of volunteers to blanket US cities with 1.2 million copies of a hopeful, albeit fake edition of The New York Times with fantasy headlines like "Iraq War Ends", "Troops to Return Immediately", "National Health Insurance Act Passes", "Nation Sets Its Sights on Building Sane Economy", "Public Relations Industry Starts to Shut Down", and a letter of resignation by Thomas J Friedman.
Today was the big day, and we've made headlines. This huge collaborative project happened only with the dedication, hard work and brilliant minds of so many people we respect and love. It is interesting that so many people seem to be pointing the finger at The Yes Men - and, why not? Their brilliant antics and pranks have captured the imagination of a generation that believes another world is possible.
Without going into too much detail (yet)about our own personal involvements, we present to you these artifacts of a thrilling day of days:
* PDF of the fake New York Times: http://www.nytimes-se.com/pdf
* Ongoing video releases found here: http://www.nytimes-se.com/video
(be careful - if you blink, you might miss Lili Taylor talking about her "compassion muscle")
* The New York Times responds: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/11/12/pranksters-spoof-the-times/
Oh the hilarity...

ps. I'm going to be telling stories and showing footage from this in all the upcoming Lost Film Fest shows.
pss.

Great post Scott! You and Liz keep the faith & don't let it get to you. Geeesh! :-/
Hi. That looks great - I just discovered this post today; sorry I missed the fake Times event. Reminds me of a fake USA Today that friends & I created back in about 1990 with a group called the Pledge of Resistance.
Here are my current fake headlines that I coincidentally just posted in my blog yesterday: http://daisybrain.wordpress.com/2011/07/15/headlines-id-like-to-see/
