Jerry Springer Episode debacle..

Okay, so a little while ago someone posted to YouTube the Springer episode I was on with dear old friends Justin Pearson (The Locust, Some Girls, Ground Unicorn Horn, Swing Kids, Struggle, etc), Alysia, and Christine. The Locust are going to be starting a tour to support their new album shortly, so in honor of the tour.. and new beginnings.. Here are the 2 segments we were in. How it happened is a long stupid story, so I'll post it right here. I'm in the second segment if you want to skip to it.. umm.. yeah.

part 2

The Whole Idiotic Story

I was in SoCal for a memorial show in 1999 for a friend of mine (Eric Allen from Unbroken/Swing Kids). My ex gf Carissa and I were staying with Justin in San Diego afterwards. I called my voicemail and discovered that my house had been robbed back in Philly, so in order to cheer myself up I made a bunch of prank phone calls. This included one to the Jerry Springer show. I left a voicemail telling them that I was sleeping with Justin, Alysia (his gf), and Christine (his roommate), and i wanted to blow the lid off the whole thing.

The producer called back, and left a message asking for me to call back "anytime"..

While in california, I discovered that a ton of my friends had started getting into the film industry, and on the plane ride home I sat next to then completely unknown actor at the time, Peter Saarsgard (who showed me the script for as yet unmade Boys Don't Cry). We chatted it up, and by the end of the flight I decided that my new direction was going to be with doing indie films.

I got home to philly, only to discover that my house had been broken into a few more times (with some kids staying there - long story..don't ask).. and all my stuff was gone, guitars, amps, tools.. whatever.. I was super bummed out.. So, as I sat up late at night I remembered that the producer of the springer show told me to call him back "anytime" and 4am was as good a time as any..
So I woke the producer up, expecting him to be really irritated, but he was thrilled that I called. He was practically yelling in my ear, "CAN YOU FLY TO CHICAGO TOMORROW???!!" and I was like " uhhhhh", completely not expecting him to be receptive...

Then the bomb dropped.

He asked me if I was making the story up, and that if I was in fact fibbing, so I thought about it for a moment.. and replied..

"Do you think I would lie to the american public about this serious matter?? Do you think I would expose my personal life to the world all for a prank? a hoax? a sham? I've never been so insulted in all my life.. harumph!" or, something ridiculous like that.

So he said.. "okay okay..now we just need to call the others to corroborate the story.."

So I gave him the phone #'s of the other kids...

And immediately I called Justin.

Lost Film Fest roadtrip starts in a few days..

I'm totally excited..why? Steaz Organic Sodas (one of the Lost Film Fest sponsors) is loaning Liz and I a van to take to True/False and SXSW. Not only that, it will be full of Steaz Energy, the first vegan and organic fair-trade energy drink (they use organic cane juice, Yerba Mate, Green Tea, Acai, and Guarana!). It's pretty ridiculous..yes.. We're heading out on Thursday first to the True/False Film Fest in Columbia, MO, Then we're heading south to Austin for SXSW. Lost Film Fest will be doing a big Bike-In-theater Party on Wed, March 14 in East Austin with our friends THAT Damned Band, then a gypsy-punk danceparty afterwards (I'll be DJ'ing loads of stuff like Gogol Bordello, Goran Bregovic, Fanfare Ciocarlia, Balkan Beatbox, and other nonsense thrown in) Check in the tourdates section for details and all that good stuff.

I'm going to post a list of stuff that we're going to be checking out at both SXSW, and all the cool stuff peripherally. I'm particularly stoked for HELL ON WHEELS the Texas Rollergirls doc at sxsw. It was directed by Bob Ray + Werner Campbell, both long time friends of Lost Film Fest. Our list of picks will soon follow of the bands and other stuff we're going to see. I'm particularly interested in seeing what films SXSW has to offer this year, and what kinds of cool new webrelated things I can check out in the SXSW interactive bit (Maybe we'll get to hang out with the Make Magazine and BoingBoing gangs!!). If you're going to be in Austin, send me a message on www.myspace.com/lostfilmfest. More than likely I'll be able to hook you up with the energy drinks for your parties and shows..

LA trip re-cap

What a crazy whirlwind it's been over the past few weeks. I just got back from Los Angeles where I decided totally last minute to go to the release party for Peter Young. Peter was just released after doing over 2 years in a federal correctional facility for liberating a few thousand mink. I'm pretty thrilled that he's finally out of prison and able to get on with his life. We're going to be booking speaking gigs for him soon with Evil Twin Booking. The event took place at our friend Taran's house (A few years ago Taran came to do a crazy thing at one of our annual Lost Film Fest shindigs.. Taran was on the show Home Improvement, and currently runs a vegan raw food company called Play Food). It was pretty awesome for me to be at the gathering because I got to re-connect with not only Peter and Taran, but other old friends from the hardcore scene like Vic DiCara and Rob Fish from 108.

While in LA I hung out a bunch with John Carr who showed me some of his new artwork, was shown some of the kooky new stuff Andre Hyland and Mike Mayfield are working on, reconnected with friends Marisa and Phil, and hung out with new pals Kay, Jamez, Yosi and Chelsea. Overall a great trip.

I'm going to be returning to LA in a few months to do some Lost Film Fest shows and maybe go to Coachella. woo!
